Programme 2018

  • Please note: The programme is subject to change without prior notice.
  • General Admission Ticket: R10
  • There will be stalls selling educational books, educational toys and children’s books in the school hall.
  • Parking will be available in the neighboring school grounds.
  • Vegetarian Food will be sold to the public
  • The Bookseller will have a pop-up-stall where readers will be able to buy copies of the participating authors’ books, as well as have their books signed. Credit card facilities are available.
  • There will be craft making (at a minimal charge) in the pink and purple rooms.

10h00 – 10h30

  • WELCOME AND OPENING
  • Location: School Hall
  • Guest Speaker: Photographer Xavier Saer and Mail&Guardian Editor in Chief Khadija Patel.
  • MC: SBSM Independent School Principal Mr Jateen Nana
  • This year we will award Author Ahmed Essop for his vast contribution to literature in South Africa and beyond.

  • Location: Black Room
  • The learners from Bilal Combined school will be in conversation with Author Mac Carim (Coolie Come out and Fight)
    Chaired by Author Naseema Moolla (Saffron)

 

  • TEEN/Tween Session 2
  • Location:  Yellow Room
  • WRITING WORKSHOP with Author Jann Weeratunga (Polly Paralympics).
  • On a first-come-first-served basis. Please note that this session has a limited capacity to 30 learners.

  • The learners from Lenasia High School (LHS) will be conversation with Author Jayne Bauling (New Keepers).

  • TEENS DISCOVER WHAT IT MEANS TO FOLLOW YOUR PASSION
    Author Victorine Mbong Shu will be in conversation with Teen Poet Lesley Mpemba Jnr and Author Stacey Fru (Smelly Cats) to find out more about what they do and why they do it.

  • BOOK LAUNCH: Her Story
  • SABC Journalist Hasina Kathrada will be in conversation with the authors, Natasha Allie and Baba-Tamana Gqubule.

 

  • TEEN Session 3
  • Location: Computer Lab
  • Join Naveera Ashraf (naveeraashraf.com), 15 year old Ahmad Muhammad (ahmadmuhammad.co.za) and 13 year old Aaisha Muhammad (aaishamuhammad.co.za) for an hour of code where teens can learn the basics of computer programming in a fun filled environment. Teens will have the opportunity to learn how to code a homework excuse generator in JavaScript, or design a HTML burger, or program Minecraft characters. No previous coding knowledge required.
